CIVIC CENTRE SITE
Sir, —While agreeing with other correspondents about the unsuitability of the City Council’s choice, I claim that the position at present occupied by the Public Library and Canterbury Club is the best possible position for our civic centre and town hall. The aspect from Oxford terrace would be very gleasant, -while there would be two ridge approaches (Hereford and Worcester streets). The city could do with a modern library like that enjoyed by Wellingtonians for the last few years, and the present council offices could be taken in exchange by the library. Our present council certainly does' lack imagination. However, the next election may give us some hope for future progress.—Yours, etc., CITY BEAUTIFUL. October 10, 1949.
