♦ Mr R. H. Bevin, senior lecturer in agriculture at Canterbury Agricultural College. Lincoln, has been appointed technical officer to the New Zealand Meat and Wool Boards. His resignation from the college staff, which will take effect from the end of this year, was accepted with regret by the Board of Governors of the college yesterday. Tributes to the life and work of the late Mr John O'Shea. K.C., were paid by the Chief Justice (Sir Humphrey O’Leary), other members of the Judiciary, and members of the Bar in the Supreme Court at Wellington yesterday, after which the Court rose for an hour as a mark of respect.— (P.A.) The annual conference of the Harbour Board Executive Officers' Association. meeting at New Plymouth yesterday. elected the following officers: president. Mr W. H. Power (Nelson): vice-president. Mr A. N. Taylor (Auckland): committee. Messrs A. L. Burk (Lyttelton). M. P. Congdon (Wellington), G. A. Eddowes (New Plymouth). J. R. Harland (Napier), and J. Renton (Otago).— <P.A.) Dr. R. O. Buchanan, who was visiting lecturer in geography at Canterbury University College last year, has been appointed to the chair of geography at the London School of Economics. He was formerly reader in economic geography at University College. London. A graduate of the University of Otago, Dr. Buchanan left New Zealand 23 years ago for further study and has taught at University College ever since. During the Second World War he was supervisor of the Air Ministry’s map-making service. Mr R. H. Arbuckle wes presented with a book on automotive mechanics last evening by Mr G. W. Fairweather, a member of the certification board of the Aeronautical and Automotive Engineers’ Institution, for gaining highest marks in the motor mechanic apprenticeship second qualifying ex?mination last year. The presentation was made at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the institution. The chairman (Mr F. V. Thomas) said that Mr Arbuckle was probably the youngest member of the institution in New Zealand.
