RIGHTHAND TRAFFIC RULE
« AMENDING SUGGESTIONS DEFERRED (New Zealand Press Association.) DUNEDIN, October 11. Because the right-hand rule at intersections was said to be confusing in practice, an amendment of the rule • was proposed at the New Zealand conference of chairmen of traffic committees and heads of traffic departments, which was continued in Dunedin to-day. Alter some discussion it wJs decided to refer the matter to the executive of the New Zealand Traffic Institute. Mr C. Bland (Auckland) said it was suggested that the regulations covering the off-side rule should be redrafted along the lines of the original provisions. Fifty per cent, of accidents arose from failure to observe the right-hand rule. The amendment that required the turning vehicle to give way to all traffic was not generally known and was causing confusion. It was stated that Wellington motorists had been educated to observe the rule. It was decided to ask the executive to make a full investigation and report back to the next annual conference.
