RABBITS AND EELS
Sir,—Why are these two important foods scarce? Both are being export* ed. Rabbits sell retail in England at about 7s 6d each. Eels are canned and sent from Southland. Shops in New Zealand can’t get the chance to deal. Rabbits are picked up by carriers at rabbiters’ camps and skinned by the exporter. I am a rabbiter and sell rabbit and fur for Bd, less tax. It’s almost impossible for the rabbiter to supply shops when all costs and charges are knocked off the price. While rabbits are exported and revenue coming in, what hope for the rabbiter to get petrol enough .to carry his catches?—Yours, etc., i , FRED RUMBLE: Dunsandel, February 25, 1949.
