JUGOSLAV CLAIMS ON AUSTRIA
NEW PROPOSALS TO DEPUTIES
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, February 24. The Jugoslav Deputy Foreign Minister (Dr. Bebler) submitted to-day compromise proposals on Jugoslavia’s claims against Austria at a meeting of the Foreign Ministers’ Deputies. His proposals included frontier rectification, political and economic automony for that part of Carinthia which should remain part of Austria, and “substantial reparations.” Dr. Bebler surprised the deputies by making no reference to Jugoslavia’s former claims of 150.000.000 dollars in reparations and to territory in Carinthia Dr. Bebler suggested that Southern Carinthia, with a mainly Slovene population, should be made a separate Austrian province with political, economic and cultural autonomy.
