BRITISH LABOUR PARTY
ELECTION POLICY CONFERENCE LONDON, February 24. The Labour Party’s General Election programme will be settled at a weekend conference lasting from to-mor-row until Sunday at Shanklin, Isle of Wight. It will be attended by all members of the party’s national executive, the whole Cabinet, and some Ministers outside the Cabinet. It is stated authoritatively that there is no intention of staging a snap General Election, and that this will not be discussed. In any case, the timing of a General Election is purely a matter for the Cabinet, not for the party’s executive. The conference, however, will decide the issues on which the next election will be fought. It is expected that nationalisation will be reduced to a minimum in the party’s programme. The Labour Party has announced that its national executive committee has declined to endorse the candidature of the Labour member of the House of Commons for Gateshead. Mr K. Zilliacus. at the General Election. Mr Zilliacus is an advocate of cooperation with Russia.
