FRANCES HODGKINS IN ART GALLERIES
Sir,—ln “The Press” to-day, Mrs O. H. Frankel is reported as saying: “I was sadly disappointed when I returned here arid found that Frances Hodgkins was good enough for the Tate, but not good enough fox Christchurch.” Apparently Mrs Frankel has not learned that the last annual meeting of the Canterbury Society of Arts unanimously adopted the motion, “That the council explore every avenue likely to lead to the procuring of an example of Frances Hodgkins’ best work.” This means that, in the opinion not only of all members of’ the council of this society, but also of all others present at this meeting, Frances Hodgkins is good enough for Christchurch. —Yours, etc., THE AUTHOR OF THE MOTION. February 25, 1949.
