LOSS OF CINERARY CASKET

Sir,—May I personally appeal to your readers for their co-operation in trying to locate my mother’s ashes? It is a heartbreaking and desperate task for us alone. Since the casket has been lost for a fortnight or more I believe it may have been abandoned somewhere in Christchurch or its vicinity. Please understand its value to us. My brother and I are bound by our sacred promise to our mother on her deathbed that we would take her ashes home to China to rest, together with our father’s. The casket is of polished wood 9 x lin and 4in deep, with Chinese writing on paper pasted on the top. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the police and "The Press” for their kind assistance and to all those who will help me.— Yours, etc.. IRMA LOWE, February 25, 1949.
