NEW AWARD FOR OPTICAL EMPLOYEES
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. February 25. A new award- for optical ’employees throughout New Zealand, except the Wellington industrial district, has 4>een announced in the Arbitration Court by Mr Justice Tyndall. It gives a 40-hour, fiveday week and overtime rates. Learners get £1 15s a week in the first six months, and thereafter six-monthly increases to £6 in the fifth year.
Mechanics receive not less than £7 12s 6d a week, and those in charge of three or more workers £8 2s 6d. Attendants, both male and female, get £2 a week in the first six months, and after five years the male wage will be £6 and the female wage £5. The award dates from January 21, 1949.
