BARGAINING FOR NEW MEAT DEAL BEGUN
REPORTED DEMAND FOR HIGHER PAYMENTS (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) . (Rec. 8 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 22. British and Argentine trade experts began bargaining to-day on the biggest British-Argentine trade deal since the war. Argentina is reported to be asking that payments for meat shipments to Britain be increased by as much as 40 per cent., and that part of the payment be made in dollars or convertible currencies. It is also reported that Argentina will ask for a five-year pact with an annual revision of prices, but that Britain, with a development of her Dominion and colonial cattle supply in prospect, would prefer to keep the present arrangement of yearly contracts.
