FOUR AUSTRALIANS AT WANGANUI
(P.A.) WANGANUI, February 23. Four Australian athletes, M. Curotta, D. White, G. Avery, and G. Goodacre, appeared in Wanganui to-night. The meeting was held in heavy rain and a strong wind. Much interest was taken in the invitation 100 yards between the Australian sprint champion, Curotta, and the All Black three-quarter, P. Henderson, the Wanganui sprint champion. Curotta won by three yards. Detailed results were:— 100 Yards Invitation.—M. Curotta 1, P. Henderson 2. Time, 10.3 sec. 880 Yards.—R. Carlyon (95yds) 1, L. M. Jensen (45yds) 2, E. McKenzie (scr) 3. D. White (scr) was not placed. Time, Imin 58.1 sec. 220 Yards.—First heat: M. Curotta (scr) 1, P. Henderson (3yds) 2, H. Brewer (11yds) 3. Time, 22.65ec. Curotta did not compete in the final, which was won by Crimp, with Pearce second and Perigo third. The time was' 22.75ec. Ope Mile.—N. Bates (scr) 1, J. F. Goodwin (60yds) 2, C. O'Connell (140yds) 3. Time, 4min 24.8 sec. D. White, on scratch, was not placed. Hop. Step, and Jump.—G. Avery ,(scr) 1, I. Wallace (6ft) 2, K. Forsythe (2ft) ,3. Distance, 47ft sin. Broad Jump.—K. Forsythe 1, G. INTER-CLUB CONTEST An inter-club athletic meeting was held on Tuesday evening in the Rawhiti Domain between the High School Old Boys and New Brighton Amateur Athletic Clubs.
