RADIO ADVERTISING PROGRAMMES
OBJECTION RAISED BY RETAILERS From Our Qwn Reporter TIMARU, February 21. Objection to the quality of features and programmes offered to commercial advertisers for broadcasting was expressed at the annual conference ot the New Zealand Retailers’ Federation at Timaru this aiternoon. “The Government is exploiting the monopoly it has in featured programmes,” said Mr A. Jones (Dunedin), sponsoring a remit drawing the attention of the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr F. Jones) to the matter. “The commercial broadcasting service is now offering advertisers feature programmes which were put over from YA stations two or three years ago, and until these features are taken up by advertisers it appears that the service will not buy anything new,” he said. Mr A. C. Sievwright (Wanganui*: Good feature programmes .are available from overseas provided advertisers are prepared to pay for them, but the cost would be prohibitive on a population basis. The present programmes are deplorably poor. The matter was referred batk to the affiliated associations for further information.
