WATER SHORTAGE AT HAWARDEN
DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL CLOSES The continued dry weather has resulted in a serious shortage of water for stock and for households in the Hawarden district. It is expected that a public meeting will shortly be called to discuss what can be done to speed up the proposed Hurunui water supply scheme. The District High School was closed recently because of the water shortage. The Education Board’s architect and works superintendent visited the school to investigate the position and to suggest any immediate remedy. It was decided to prospect below the present well before sinking a new one.
