Burton, Secretary of the Department, who has returned from his mission to the New Delhi conference, said that Dr. Burton had done an excellent job £or Australia. In principle, the confetence decisions on Indonesia were in line with the Security Council discussions, although some additional recommendations had been made.
Australia’s attitude had been strictly in accordance with her general policy of unwavering support for United Nations principles and purposes, including the settlement of all international disputes by conciliation and not by force. x
In addition, said Dr. Evatt, the con-, ference had undoubtedly strengthened practical co-operation between five member nations of the British Commonwealth —Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, and Ceylon. “I believe the security and welfare of all the peoples of South-east Asia will be advanced as a result of the conference,” he said.
