ORDERING DUTCH TO WITHDRAW

INDIAN MOTION FOR SECURITY COUNCIL

(Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 25. India proposed a resolution to-day urging the United Nations Security Council to order the Dutch troops to withdraw from the Indonesian Republic’s territory by the middle of March and to make provision for helping the Republic economically. Sir Benegal Rama Rau (India) warned the Netherlands that they had little chance of success with “imperialism” when 19 Asian and Pacific nations were against them and American public opinion opposed their policy. Even if they won militarily, they might come up against the other weapons of non-co-operation and passive resistance which had already baffled the mighty British Empire in India.

The Council adjourned until Thursay without voting.
