COMMUNITY CENTRE AS WAR MEMORIAL
• MOUNt pleasant proposal A scheme for establishing a community recreation centre as a war memorial in the district was considered at a well-attended public meeting held this week in the Mount Pleasant boathouse. Mr W. E. Turland (chairman) outlined the development of the Mount Pleasant scheme before introducing Miss D. R. Crumpton (director of the Risingholme Community Centre), who spoke on the work of the Risingholme centre. Miss Crumpton emphasised the importance of the scheme as a community effort and its good neighbour policy. After discussion, a motion that the community centre scheme for Mount Pleasant be proceeded with was carried unanimously. The following committee was elected, with power to add to its numbers: Messrs W. E. Turland (chairman), E, England, A. D. Clark, H. J. Brixton, F. Gibson, Mesdames Cropp, A. Smith, I. Sladen, I. Dawrant, Meldrum, and V. Edgar (honorarysecretary).
