JAPAN’S WOOL PURCHASES
INCREASE POSSIBLE (N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) TOKYO, July 15. If sales of Japanese wool manufacturers exceeded their estimates, the Supreme Command of the Allied Powers would be more than pleased to increase its raw wool purchases from the sterling area, said Mr Frank Pickelle, chief of the foreign trade division of the organisation. He added that the organisation was also interested in expanding purchases of foodstuffs, metals, ores, hides, skins, and textiles fibres from the sterling area. The possibilities of marketing Japanese tweed manufactures would be explored to enable the purchase from India of carpet wool—at present the only type of wool which it is considered Japan was able to import.
