PORTER ADMITS THEFT FROM HOTEL SAFE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 15. Employed as a night porter at the Metropolitan Hotel. Auckland, until he left the job early on the morning of June 29, after stealing £l5B from the safe, Joseph Barnao, aged 22, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court to-day on three charges. The accused pleaded guilty to the theft of the money and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. For being found in possession of a .22 calibre revolver, he was fined £25, in default six weeks’, imprisonment. Barnao will appear at Palmerston North on a charge of stealing a motor-car.
