HOUSING SHORTAGE

Sir,—To the average person it is sickening to read the trash of some correspondents about housing shortage. There is never anything constructive in these letters, only abuse of Government and Apparently, all they require is a house, less work, and more money. What about these people commencing a crusade to get all workers to agree to more work an hour and more hours a week—6o hours if necessary. It would not be necessary to interfere with the principle of the 40-hour week. By the output our building programme could be doubled, and everyone would soon be. comfortably housed. I would also suggest legislation to provide that any person guilty of inciting a strike, stopwork meeting or go-slow policy, who is occupying a State or privatelyrented house be- evicted. Only by stern measures can we reach a solution.—Yours, etc.. TOILER. March 18, 1948.
