POWER SUPPLY THIS YEAR
EARLIER WARNING LIKELY There was no reazon to believe that the power situation would be as bad this year as it was last year, according to information given to the Christchurch Drainage Board by tha engineer (Mr E. F. Soott). He told the board that after seeing a published report that the. level at Waitaki had dropped, he had communicated with the assistant-manager of the State Hydro-electric Department, who had given the information. Although lake storage was being used the lakes might be replenished before the winter freeze, Mr Scott said. The shortage of oil fuel might create a greater demand for electricity. but the authorities gave an assurance that they would ask for savings earlier than they did last year.
