DEFENCE PLANS IN NORWAY

SPENDING OF £5,000,000 APPROVED (Rec. 7 p.m.) OSLO, March 16. The Norwegian Parliament has approved the nroposal of the Prime Minister (Mr Einar Gerhardsen) to spend £5.000,000 to strengthen Norway’s military and civil defences.

The Communists opposed the proposal. Mr Gerhardsen described as "a pure invention” rumours that the Soviet Union hatf offered Norway a treaty of mutual assistance similar to that offered to Finland.
