DEFENCE PLANS IN SWEDEN
ARMY CHIEF SUBMITS PROPOSALS (Rec. 7 p.tn.) STOCKHOLM, March 15. The Swedish Commander-in-Chief (General Jung) has handed a memorandum to the Government demanding measures for strengthening Sweden’s military preparedness. They include the calling up of more men and the building of fortifications and airfields. General Jung said that Sweden could not overlook the possibility that Russia in strengthening her own security might think it possible to undertake partial actions without causing a major war. This, and the fact that it might be difficult to obtain arms abroad if the situation deteriorated, prompted his demand for strengthened defences now.
