ST. ALBANS ELECTORATE New Zealand was rapidly becoming one of the outposts of democracy and must be ready for the day when the blow of the hammer and the sweep of the sickle should be made.-said Mr A. N. Stone, chairman of the St. Albans electorate committee of the National Party,* at the annual meeting. In Europe the democracies were retreating before the onward surge of Communism which now threatened the entire world. “If we are to survive with our ideals intact we must go to the attack and not wait to meet the invaders on» our own beaches,” said Mr Stone. , The election of . officers resulted:— chairman, Mr A. N. Stone; deputychairman, Mr F. H. Wilson; chairman of finance committee, Mr E. R. Caygill; junior liaison officers, Mr R. Thomson and Miss F. Stewart* delegates to divisional committee, Messrs A. N. Stone. F. H. Wilson, W. Baxter, E. R. Cay gill, L. Pepperell, W. G. Winnicott. I. M. B. McLean, W. Harris, Mesdames S. C. P- Nicholls, C. G. Parish, M. E. G. Hobbs, E. C. Colville, A* E. Higgins, and Miss F. Stewart; delegates to Dominion conference, Mrs E. C. Colville, Messrs A. N. Stone, W. Baxter, and W. Harris; chairman policy committee, Mr L. W. Pepperell. Women’s Meeting Trade unionism, National Party policy, and organisation were the main topics discussed by the electorate women’s organisation at its annual meeting. Addresses were given by the chairman .of the Canterbury women’s division (Mrs F. E. Burrell), Mrs E. R. Rice (a Dominion councillor), and the organiser (Mr R. Derrett). , The election of officers resulted:— chairman, Mrs E. C. Colville; secretary, Mrs J. E. Purchas.
