OBITUARY
MR F. T. ELDRIDGE The death octfurred recently of Mr Frederick Tom Eldridge, an old resident of Christchurch and Redcliffs, at the ageWrf 86. years. • Mr Eldridge was born in Woodend, North Canterbury, and at an early age settled in Christchurch and was engaged as a carpenter. Later he foreman for several prominent builders in Christchurch. He was a prominent trade unionist, and was secretary of the Canterbury Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Union for many years. He was interested in friendly society work and was a member 4>f the Court Star of Canterbury, Ancient Order of Foresters, for 68 years, and filled many official positions in the Court, as well as in the Canterbury United District A.0.F., and was a trustee of both for many years. During the first world war he was a member of the Appeal Board, and afterwards a member of the Rehabilitation Board. He was one of the original members of the Redcliffs Burgesses’ Association, and was its first president. He served two terms on the Sumner Borough Council, and during the second term he was Deputy-Mayor. Mr Eldridge is survived oy one son, Mr Edward F. T. Eldridge, and four daughters, Mesdames L. E. Shaw and A. F. Roberts, Sister Anna, and Miss Tui G. Eldridge, nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
