NEW BOARD OF TRADE ORDERS SIGNED

EFFORT TO CHECK NEW WAGE DEMANDS

LONDON, February 24. The President of the Board of Trade (Mr Harold Wilson) has announced that he has signed orders designed in accordance with Sir Stafford Cripps’s policy, announced on February 12, to prevent an increase in prices and profits which would strengthen the demands for increased wages. The new orders, which are effective on March 15, cover 160 unessential items, formerly under only loose control. The orders also forbid manufacturers to pass on to the consumer the cost of wage increases resulting

from wage agreements after February 4 unless the Board of Trade consents. Articles affected include umbrellas, typewriters, cameras, radios, gramophones. television sets, toilet articles, and stationery.
