Sir,—N. M. Bell wants to do away with our Defence Department by deducting one-fifteenth of our income tax and paying it into the Social Security Fund. Had we done this before the war we should now be under Japanese rule. In what other way does he propose that we keep ourselves free? The only way is to disarm the enemy; and this cannot be done without our armies.—Yours, etc., DEMOCR/.T. January 8, 1948.
