OPERATION IN U.S.

ROTARY CLUB’S HELP

An appeal for the loan of £6OO was received by the Christchurch Rotary Club yesterday to enable Mr James Sutton, of Christchurch, to fly to America for an operation for Parkinson’s disease, or snaking palsy. The loan was granted free of interest by the club, and Mr Sutton will leave for America next Wednesday to undergo the operation at St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. The operation, which is believed never to have been performed in Australia or New Zealand, will be carried out by Dr. Roland Klemme, who has operated successfully on similar cases. The total cost of the trip is £l4OO, and as the need for an additional £6OO arose suddenly, the departure of Mr Sutton and his mother, Mrs E. Sutton, for America might have had to be cancelled had it not been for the Rotary Club’s generous help.
