OBITUARY
MISS J. BAILIE Miss Jean Bailie, a member of one of the best known families on the West Coast, died at her home in Westport on Tuesday night. She was the second eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Bailie, who were closely identified with the development of Westport, where Mr Bailie established a business in 1867 and for many years took a leading part in church and educational affairs of the Buller district. Miss Bailie was born in Westport and educated privately and at Nelson Girls’ College. She was an enthusiastic and skilful tennis player, winning several championships in the local club and at West Coast tournaments. She was also a keen golfer and did much useful work in the administration of both sports in Westport. In patriotic and charitable appeals and in all movements for tfye welfare of the district she gave generous and efficient service. - She is survived by three sisters — Mrs O. E. Bowling (Westport), Mrs E. D. Sydenham (Cashmere, Christchurch). and Mrs Hugh Hamilton (Nelson), and two brothers, Messrs J. and T. Bailie, both of whom live in the North Island.
