SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE
EXTRACTIONS INFREQUENT Records of the School Dental Service for the last 25 years show clearly that there has been a swing from a preponderance of extractions over fillings until now extractions amongst primary school children are infrequent. A statement by the Department of Health says that dentistry is rapidly becoming a science of prevention. With the great strides being made in research, in anaesthetics, and in the manufacture of mechanical aids, more emphasis is laid on the prevention of dental decay. The department says that the success of the service may well lie in the fact that young persons are keeping their teeth sound and healthy. The cooperation of parents is vital, as it is through influence in the home that adolescents will continue to care for their teeth.
