REMEMBRANCE DAY

CENOTAPH CEREMONY ARRANGED OBSERVANCE ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9 (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 28. Arrangements for the observance of Remembrance Day on Sunday November 9, have been approved by the King. On the first stroke of 11 a.m. by Big Ben, two minutes’ silence will b.e obseiyed. Its beginning and end will be marked by the firing of a gun on the Horse Guards Parade. At the end of the silence “Last Post” will be sounded by trumpeters of the Royal Air Force. —.T ll ® King, followed by Princess Elizabeth, will then lay a wreath on the Cenotaph. Others will be laid on behalf of Queen Mary, all the Governments of the British Commonwealth, and all branches of the services. Mr Jordan will lay a wreath on behalf of the New Zealand Government and people, and the official «I cr^ ta P r at New Ze aland House (Mr W. G. Stevens) will lay a wreath on behalf of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association.

When all the wreaths have been placed on the Cenotaph, the hymn O God Our Help in Ages Past” will be sung, followed by a short service, the sounding of “Reveille” by buglers or the Royal Marines, and the singing of one verse of the National Anthem. A special service will be held in W^ tm L ns , t , er Ab bey at the same time. The hollow square round the Cenotaph will be formed by representative detachments of all the services ineluding the Merchant Navy and the nsning fleets, the women’s services an ", CIVII defence organisations. The Queen, Queen Mary, Princess Margaret hnd ladies of the Royal household will watch the ceremony from windows overlooking Whitehall Before the parade is dismissed all the service detachments will march past the Cenotaph, ’followed by those members of the general public who desire to lay wreaths.
