SWISS ELECTION
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 28. The Swiss radio says that the results of the Swiss elections show that the Progressive Democrats, who are the centre party, have overtaken the Social Democrats, who have been Switzerland’s strongest party for four years. The pro-Communist Labour Party, which was outlawed from 1939 lo 1945. has seven seats in the new Parliament. The results, which are complete except for one seat, are:—Progressive •Democrats. 51 (47 in the last Parlia--2? e . ! Jt):. Social Democrats. 48 (54); Catholic Conservative. 44 (43); Farmers. Workers’, and Middle-class Party. I 2 zo“2): Independents. 8 (5); Liberals, (8); Labour. 7 (0); Democrats, 5 (6): others. 2 <9). No change is expected in the composition of the Government, which is • coalition of the four leading parties.
