SYDNEY_RACING MURRAY STREAM’S SECOND WIN IN METROPOLITAN (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, October 6. Metropolitan day at Randwick again proved expensive for punters, with littlefavoured horses taking most of the stake money. Murray Stream, at long odds, repeated his performance of two years ago by taking the Metropolitan after a desperate finish decided by the photograph. The. win was a triumph for the apprentice, J. Eaves, who took over from A. Mußey after the horse had failed in the Epsom Handicap on Saturday. Connexions say Murray Stream will retire to the stud at the end of this racing season. Another photo-finish was called for to decide the winner of the Shorts Handicap, ■which went to Native Son over the favourite, Tactician. The result was a shock

to punters and radio announcers, who called Tactician as the winner. He led almost throughout, but Native Son on the outside came through too strongly. In the George Main Stakes, Munro, on Bhannon, almost caused an upset by taking things too easily. Shannon took the lead in the straight and went away until he eased at the finish. Victory Lad seized the chance to make a bid” and failed only by half a neck. Shannon has now won 14 races and £lB.OOO in stakes. An outsider, Midwise, had too much pace for her rivals in the Gimcrack Stakes. Results:— GIMCRACK STAKES, Of £l3 each, with £l3OO added. TwofiUies - Five furlongs. MIDWISE by.
