WOMEN’S INDOOR BASKETBALL

PALMERSTON NORTH AND WELLINGTON IN FINAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. Palmerston North and Wellington are still unbeaten in the women’s national indoor A grade championships, which were continued in Wellington to-day. They meet in the final round this afternoon.

Wellington is the only unbeaten team in the B grade. Auckland and Wairarapa are next, having had one loss each. Wellington has yet to play Auckland. Palmerston North beat Nelson by 60 to 28, the highest scoring match of the tournament, and Auckland by 35-17. The Palmerston North team has shown brilliant attacking movements, but has not yet appeared as sound in defence as Wellington, who have generally kept the opposing scores fairly low. Against Gisborne to-night, the Wellington defence was particularly effective. The final score was 35-4, Gisborne’s points coming from fouls. Auckland, with six wins and two losses, Southland and New Plymouth, with four wins and four losses, and Hamilton and Gisborne with four wins and five losses, have been the most successful teams apart from the leaders. Nelson and Canterbury have each had three wins and five losses, Morrinsville one win and seven losses, and Otago has not had a win. Results:—
