SOCIAL SECURITY PENALTY

Sir, —If by inadvertence one misses paying one’s social security tax, by even one month, pne is mulcted in a penalty of 10 per cent., whereas for an omission to pay income tax after, the days of grace the penalty is 5 per cent. Surely Mr Nash nas secured enough £ s. d. by withdrawing subsidies on sugar, tea, etc., with no conresponding reduction on sales tax or income tax, without stinging one to the tune of 10 per cent, on omissions as mentioned above. To equalise matters we should get 10 per cent, on our Savings Bahfc deposits.—Yours, etc., - FAfo IS FAIR. October 1, 1947.
