A “SLUM” AREA
Sir, —I would like to draw your attention to what I call a slum area. The place I have in mind is where at least three sheds no more than eight feet by 10 feet are erected, and yet folk are living in these, the only convenience being electric light. All waste dishwater, , etc., just gets emptied in the yafd. There are no sanitary arrangements, save for the use of the one lavatory, which really belongs to the main dwelling. I would like also to bring to your notice that one of these so-called dwellings has gone up in the last three years. Is this the type of dwellings for which permits are granted? —Yours, etc., J. INKSTER. October 2, 1947.
