OLDEST FLOURMILL AT TIMARU
SALE TO BREWERY FIRM SOUGHT
The oldest-established in Timaru, owned by the Belford Mills Company, Ltd., was the subject of an application heard by the Canterbury Rural Land Sales Committee at Timaru yesterday. Permission was sought to sell the property to New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., at £14,000. All the machinery used in the mill was disposed of recently, and the company is at present in liquidation. Belford Mil] began operating with the long out-dated grindstones. It was the smallest in operation in Timaru. The property, which includes 2 roods 25.5 perches of land, comprises a fourstoreyed flourmill, a three-storeyed store behind it, a single-storeyed grain store, a two-storeyed grain store, a two-truck brick garage, and an open store. A railway siding is included in the sale. The mill and three stores have a total floor space of 22,772 square feet. Mr P. W. Rule valued the property at £14,765 for the vendor, while Mr B. C. Wilson valued it at £11,160 for the Crown. The mill is being bought for grain drying and the reconditioning and malting of barley. Decision was reserved.
