NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
Sir,—lt is estimated that tl.e gambling turnover in England last year was. not less , than £710,000.000, £513,000,000 was spent on beer and £511.000 000 on cigaretes, and another £250,000.000 on wines, spirits, pipe tobacco, and cigars. Yesterday the churches of New Zealand were praying about the economic crisis. I suggest that what is needed most in England, and, indeed, the whole world, is repentance towards God and the acceptance of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as personal Saviour and Lord. Prayers without repentance are vain. The world is reaping just what it has sown.—Yours, etc., OBSERVER. September 29, 1947.
