£20,000 GIVEN TO GORE
GREATER PART FOR GARDENS (P.A.) GORE, October 1. Gifts totalling £20,000 to the town of Gore were announced to-day, the donor being Mr John Howard Dolamore, of Lowry Bay, Wellington, formerly of Gore. The gifts are: £5OOO for Croydon Domain improvemeiits (for which £14,000 was also granted under the will of Mrs Dolamore), £5OOO for a winter garden, £lOOO for a .fernery, £lOOO to put the site for these in order, £5OOO to provide revenue for local’ improvements to domains and streets, £lOOO for the building fund of Holy Trinity Church, £lOOO for local premises for the Red Cross Society, and £lOOO for the building fund of the Gore Brigade of the Order of St. John.
Mr Dolaftiore was associated for many years with the “Mataura Ensign,” of which he is still part proprietor and a director. He was also an early managing-director of the Christchurch “Sun.”
