VISIT TO WEST END SHOPPING AREA

LONDON, September 29. 1 Princess Elizabeth broke her holiday in Scotland and came to London witn the King and Princess Margaret Rose ; to prepare for her wedding. She pvnpcted to visit'her dressmaker, Norman Hartnell, for the first fitting of herwedding gown before she returns to Balmoral later in the week. The Queen remained at Balmoral. Four new colours will commemorate Princess Elizabeth’s wedding. The Princess, during her shopping tour of London to-day, called at the headquarters of the British Colour Council and saw materials made up in the new colours: limeflower (a primrose-tinted Seen), linden (a deep green), princess ue (a pastel shade), and Spithead blue (a light navy blue). The Princess, during her tour oi London’s West End shopping chose furnishing fabrics, dress materials, tablecloths, and lingerie fabrics from a selection which the British Rayon Federation displayed as a wedding present. . x The Princess ignored the new skirt length and wore a blue suit with a knee length skirt. The Princess is haying a busy time inspecting and acknowledging wedding gifts, which ■ so far include 18 pairs of nylon and pure silk stockings from the Nottingham Chamber of Commerce, knitted underwear, cashmere twin sets, and hand woven scarves. It is announced that her wedding dress will have a train of English silk woven from the product of a silk farm in Kent. - Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten arrived at Buckingham Palace to-day on leave from his naval station. He and Princess Elizabeth spent the evening m the Palace talking over the future. Gifts for Charity The special correspondent of the i New Zealand Press Association says ■ that wedding gifts for Princess Eliza- > beth and Lieutenant Mountbatten are • already being received in large numbers at Buckinghanj Palace.
