ARAB RESISTANCE TO PARTITION
Syrian Note To Britain On Palestine LEAGUE STATES TO PROTEST (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, September 25. The Syrian Government has sent a Note to Britain declaring that in common with the rest of the Arab world Syria would resist to the limit any attempt at partition of Palestine. . Reuters says it is believed that the riote is the result of decisions made at a conference of Arab Foreign Ministers which considered the report of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine.
Reuters Beirut correspondent reports that Fauzi el din Al Kawukii, a former Arab revolutionary leader, in a message issued to Arabs through the press, said that Arabs were about to retaliate to the Zionist challenge. The Arabs would soon prove to the British and Americans that they were stronger and more beneficial to Britain and America. “It is time for serious action,” he said. “Cease talking and draw your arms.” In Cairo, the Arab Higher Organisation has issued a statement calling on the Arab and Islamic worlds to protest on October 3 against the report of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine by strikes, demonstrations, meetings, press articles, statements, cables to the United Nations and protests to foreign 1 embassies, legations, and consulates. The statement added that the organisation had received thousands of cables from political organisations in the Arab countries expressing their “readiness for action.”
Reports that the Arab League will advocate the withdrawal of all foreign oil concessions if the United Nations adopts the scheme for the partition of Palestine have caused a sharp slump in oil shares both in London and New York. Although the official text of the Arab League decision is still awaited in London oil experts attach considerable credence to the report, which was not unexpected.
