WEST ISLINGTON BY-ELECTION
SEAT RETAINED BY LABOUR LONDON, September 25. The by-election for the West Islington seat in the House of Commons resulted as follows: A. Evans (Labour), 8760 votes; T. F. Howard (Conservative), 4084; E. T. Malindine (Liberal), 2459; L. J. Wildman (Independent), 33; Labour majority, 4676. , x Fiftv-one per cent, of the electorate voted. Mr Wildman forfeited his deposit. . The vacancy wag caused by the elevation of Mr F. Montague to the peerage.
At the General Election Of 1945, the polling in the West Islington constituency was as follows: F. Montague (Labour), 11,496 votes; Major E. T. Hope (Conservative), 4090. The number of eligible voters in the constituency was 27,085.
