AUCKLAND PROSPECTS

“The Press’ - Special Service AUCKLAND, September 26. After fine weather and a good breeze for several days, heavy rain yesterday has softened the Epsom course again, but the going to-morrow is likely to be better than it was last Saturday for the final day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s September meeting.

The fields are well balanced and should ensure spectacular contests. Keen interest is being taken in the appearance of Lone Raider in the chief event, the Ferguson Handicap, and, following his fine effort of the first day, the TAkanini pacer may be favourite. Horses expected to be in demand are:

10.45 a.m.—lnnovation Handicap: Legionnaire, Great Venture, Don Parrish.

11.30 a.m.—Devonport Handicap: Marshal Ney, Commander Scott, Amber Light. 12.20 p.m.—Putiki Handicap: Commotion, Fantom, Minoru.

1.10 p.m.—Ferguson Handicap: Lone Raider, Desert Lad, Single Direct. k

PLUNDER BAR A HIGH-CLASS PACER

Plunder Bar, which has won his way to New Zealand Trotting Cup company for his owner, M. C. McTigue, who trains him at Methven, is one of the favourites for the Farewell Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington to-day. The 1940 foal of Jack Potts and Waress, Plunder Bar was bred by McTigue, who educated and trained him for his early races. Plunder Bar commenced his career as a two-year-old in the 1942-43 season, securing one second placing in five starts. The gelding was lightly raced in the following term, finishing in the money in three of his five races and, as a four-year-old, he started in 13 races for seven minor placings.

After gaining four second placings and a third placing in his first six starts as a five-year-old. Plunder Bar secured his first win in the Forbury Handicap, at the Forbury Phrk Trotting Club’s meeting on December 1, 1945. Plunder Bar gradually improved and his last seven starts for the season yielded three wins and two mirtor placings.

Last season Plunder Bar raced well to earn £3475 for four wins and five minor placings. Plunder Bar was unplaced at his first appearance this season, but at his next attempt he won the National Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on August 30 in an easy manner from Aberhall.

At his last start. Plunder Bar was placed second to Belhall in the Electric Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on September 6, and, on that form, he should go close to winning the Farewell Handicap to-day.

Most opposition to Plunder Bar in the Farewell Handicap may come from Maudeen. Checkmate, Ann Scott, Jack’s Son, and Maori Home. Ann Scott and Jack’s Son finished in fourth and fifth place respectively in the Electric Handicap at Addington on September 6, and they would need to show little improvement to earn some of the money to-day.

Jottings Goldina, a maiden pacer in L. A. Williams’s stable at New Brighton, may race well in the trotting events at the Reefton Jockey Club’s meeting. J. J. Brophy’s team at Pleasant Point includes Bull’s Eye, which is by Quite Sure from Grattan Derby, which left winners in Homeward to Happy Voyage and Black Marble to Nelson Derby. By Huia Dillon, Grattan Derby is out of Muriel Derby, by Mauritius from Lottie Derby, both of which were imported to

Certify has a consistent record and he may be placed in the Oneroa Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting to-day. Monitress, which will start from the 24 yards mark in the Introductory Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Chib's meeting, gained 16 minor placings last season. Dame Din-din, a sister to Jason’s Quest, may race well in the Drayton Handicap at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting next week.

In Work at Aylesbury Besides the promising Palava, F. Jamieson’s team at Aylesbury includes Contempt, which is a six-year-old mare by Jack Potts from Lena Bingen, by Nelson Bingen from Lena Ashwell. South Canterbury J.C. Nominations close South Canterbury Jockey Club for two trots, Monday, at 5 p.m. Classes, 3min 37sec and 3min 33sec mile and a half. Advt.
