GOVERNMENT OF POLAND
Sir, —Mr Buttle is mistaken in saying that my opinion regarding the Slav race is the reverse of his. I agree with his quotations; but there remain the “Asiatic hordes” of Eastern Russia. His . suggestion that the Slavs need to combine to protect themselves against the Turks sounds a little fantastic to-day. In any case, what I was trying to point out is that the Slavs to-day are not voluntarily combining, but are being dominated by the, powerful U.S.S.R. Government, which is not a Slav government. Mr Buttle’s “Slav block” is merely an extension of U.S.S.R. into Europe, and is a far greater menace to Europe than the Turks (or Chinese) are ever likely to be.—Yours, etc.; G. F. SEWARD. August 29. 1947. [H. J. Buttle may, if he wishes, briefly reply; otherwise, ence is closed. —Ed. “The Press.”]
