DESERTERS FROM SHIPS
Sir—Your sub-leader on “Deserters from Ships” should be read by every New Zealander who desires to see high standards maintained. Attention should also be paid to the daily court columns, for the names of men who entered the country as deserters seem to appear all too frequently. Certainly the law should be amended forthwith and men with unsatisfactory backgrounds and shiftless characters should be deported. We don’t want interlopers or “spivs.”—Yours, etc.. FOURTH GENERATION. August 29, 1947.
