VACATION SCHOOL

SHIRLEY METHODIST CHURCH

A total of 179 children of the district assembled yesterday for the first session of a vacation school being held each morning this week by the Shirley Methodist Youth Council. The plan was developed in conjunction with the Parent-Teacner Association and committees of the Shirley primary and intermediate schools. Children from Standards I to VI may attend, and the cost is being met from gifts. The theme, “Partners With God,” is being followed in all activities. The morning opens with a short devotional period, followed by half an “hour's instruction with films. “God and Nature” and “God and Home” are early subjects. Tnere are group games and then expression classes in colouring line drawings.

The Rev. J. B. Dawson is directing the school, assisted by 15 helpers. Reading books are being provided by the Schools’ Liorary Service, and milk by the Health Department. Officers of the Physical Welfare Division of the Department of Internal Affairs are assisting with games and sports.
