CANTERBURY VOTES
ITEMS IN THE ESTIMATES (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, August 21. Estimates for hydro-electric works in Canterbury are set out in the Estimates. For work at Lake Tekapo £500,000 is set aside, and the sum for work at Lake Pukaki is £250,000. The Estimates make provision for a compassionate grant of £1250 to Mrs D. G. Sullivan, wife of the former Minister of Industries and Commerce. The Estimates provide for £lOOO for the Sumner lifeboat harbour and £lO,OOO for harbour improvements at Westport. There is provision for £lO,lOO for Canterbury district investigations into irrigation, water supply, and drainage, of £59.600 for the Downs water supply schemes, of £65,000 for the Mayfield-Hinds irrigation scheme, and £3OOO for irrigation in the Rakaia district There is £29,150 for the Rangitata diversion race.
The vote for work in the next 12 months on building the Christchurch railway station is £60,000.
