MORE THAN £10,000 DAMAGE

CHRISTCHURCH FACTORY FIRE £3OOO WORTH OF TYRES AND TUBES LOST Damage caused by the fire in the three buildings owned by Boon and Company, Ltd., carriage and car body builders, on Thursday evening, has been estimated at more than £lO,OOO. The largest of the three buildings, d brick structure, had the upper storey gutted. This part of the premises was rented as a storeroom to Motor Assemblies, Ltd., and to Firestone Tyre Distributors.

Leather seating, body cloth, loose cover material, and other materials used in the trimmings of 4 motor-cars were lost by Motor Assemblies. Motor tyres and tubes, valued at more than £3OOO, made up the losses of the tyre distributing firm. The tubes were inkside the tyres, where they had been placed, partly inflated, to save space in shipping.

Damage to the buildings from fire was confined almost ent'rely to the second storey. The roof and interior walls of the brick building were destroyed, and the greater part of the next building’s upper storey was burnt. The most eastern building of the block was the least damaged, the Ferry road side ofi the upper floor being partly burnt. ’ More than 1000 vehicle tyres stored on the premises of Firestone Tyre Distributors. next to the brick building, where the fire apparently started, were saved by a brick wall and a fireproof door from damage.
