AFFILIATED BODIES COMMENDED

During the year 1946-47 the membership of the club had increased considerably, said the president of the Pioneer Amateur Sports Club (Mr C. H. Franklin), when he presented his report at the annual meeting of the club last evening. The total membership of the club stood at 1171, said Mr Franklin. Reviewing the year, he said that two affiliated organisations, the Pioneer Motor Club and the motor-cycle section of that club, deserved congratulation for the manner in which they had revived their activities and increased their membership since the end of the war. There was a considrable outside interest in the functions arranged by these two bodies, and in conjunction with sister clubs throughout New Zealand, the two bodies were making constant efforts to foster road-safety campaigns. The popularity of the branches of sport which the motor and the motor-cycle clubs represented demanded that such efforts should be maintained. he said. Mr Franklin also commended the work ofsthe sporting car section and the billiards committee of the club.

In spite of the unrivalled facilities of the club, said Mr Franklin, not sufficient new members -were joining. He would recommend that a special committee be set up to investigate ways and means of increasing membership. The committee was elected as follows:—Messrs C. H. FrankMn (convener), S. Gould, W. H. Cook, H. Gormley, and the chairman of the billiards committee (to be elected). The election of officers for the new year resulted as follows:—patron, Mr R. C. Symes; president, Mr C. H. Franklin; vicepresidents, Messrs C. S. Thomas, C. Bonnington, R. H. Parker, and R. P. Hampton; general committee. Messrs W. Collings, S. Cawtheray. H. Jeffery, W. J. Cowles, A. H.
