INTER-ISLAND MATCH NEXT MONTH
NORTH ISLAND TEAM ANNOUNCED
The New Zealand Hockey Association announces that the North Island selectors, Messrs W. Newsham and K. A. Falconer, have selected the following players to represent the North Island in the annual North v. South Island match, to be played at Wellington on Saturday, August 30:— Goalkeeper, R. Jenkins (Auckland); right back, J. S. Buchan (Auckland); left back, R. Adcock (Manawatu); right half, R. Stewart (Auckland); centre half, J. Dunning (Rodney); left half, D. Mulheron (Wellington); right wing, D. Neale (Auckland): inside right, S. Faulknor (Wairarapa); centre forward, R. H. Roughton (Auckland); inside left, L. R. Hill (Taranaki); left wing, T. Hooper (Wairarapa). The reserves are: back, J. Harrington (Wairarapa); half-back, J. Tynan (Wellington); forward, I. Ting (Wellington). The umpires are Messrs R. Hunter (Waikato) and H. Teague (Canterbury). The captain of the North Island team has still to be appointed. The average age of the North Island team is 24. The average age of the South Island team, which has been published previously, is 28. Considerable interest attaches to the match as the form shown in this game will have a bearing on the selection of the New Zealand team to play against the visiting Australian team next year.
