THE WATERSIDERS
Sir, —Like many others, I am appalled at the apparent apathy of New Zealand citizens at the watersiders’ behaviour, especially as demonstrated over a recent court case and the “hands off” -attitude at Radio Town Talks meeting about parcels for Britain. Lord Montgomery has said that a nation’s greatness is laid in the family life of the children. Consider what a terrible harvest we will reap in years to come from the examples set in these homes. Lord Montgomery’s visit has proved that the public can be roused out of its apathy by a great leader. I suggest that the Manufacturers’ Association, the churches, and all thinking bodies get together, find a leader, and start a public campaign to cleanse the country of this menace. If a lead is given, I am su,re the public will back it up.—Yours, etc.. LEADER WANTED. July 25, 1947.
